 A returning client from Ashford contacted me about her garden gate. She had been relying on a small padlock but didn’t feel it offered enough security. 

 On arrival, I noticed the gate had exposed screws on the outside — a serious weakness from a security perspective. Definitely not ideal for protecting the property. 

 The customer opted for a key-and-key lock, similar to ones I’ve fitted before. As the gate opening was narrow and lacked a 4-inch post, I had to work with the existing setup. I advised cutting a recess into one of the bricks to take the bolt, avoiding a misaligned gate. 

 While not as robust as a setup with a heavy post, the new lock is far more secure than the exposed screws and padlock arrangement.
