 A customer from Sunbury, TW16, rang me one morning about a wooden back door that wouldn’t close properly. He’d already had a go at fixing it himself but couldn’t get it working again. 

 Usually, when I hear someone’s attempted a DIY repair, I expect to find the locking system in pieces — screws missing, springs scattered, and a long job ahead. Not this time. The door and lock were still fully intact, which was a promising start.

     When I lifted the handle, I could feel something inside the case blocking the mechanism, preventing the handle from lifting fully.

 I opened up the case and removed the broken parts, hoping that would solve the problem — but it didn’t. So, I fitted a new genuine MPL gearbox straight from the van. The bolt space in the mechanism needed a small adjustment, but once done, the handle and lock worked like new. 

 With the new gearbox fitted and aligned, the back door now closes and locks smoothly, giving the customer the security and peace of mind they were after.
