Locksmith stories 008 - Sliding door handle

Landlord from Thames Ditton KT7 called EPRLocksmith with an issue involving their sliding patio door. The handle of the multi point locking system was not working when used from the internal side of the door, which made closing the door challenging to say the least.

 The door was fitted with a Siegenia Aubi locking mechanism and hardware — a quality system, paired with a beautiful set of 12‑inch handles offering three positions: open, stop, and lock. After removing the handles to investigate, the issue became clear: the spindle had shifted position over time and was no longer engaging with the indoor handle. 

 The exterior handle was excessively corroded, with the spindle seized inside the mechanism. Without a replacement available from stock, as they are a niche product and very expensive, I cleaned the handle thoroughly, lubricated all the components, and reassembled the mechanism. The customer chose not to replace the damaged parts despite my recommendation. 

 The door operated once again but the corrosion still raised questions about future reliability. While the repair increased usability, a full replacement of the handles would be a more permanent solution.
