 A customer in Wembley contacted me about an aluminium tilt-and-turn window that was jammed shut, with the handle spinning freely without engaging the lock. 

 After working through a selection of tools, I managed to open the window without causing any damage. The gearbox on this style of window runs all the way around the frame, which makes parts tricky to source — especially as many models are now discontinued. 

 I don’t keep these gearboxes in stock due to their rarity and variety, but I was able to track one down from a supplier. The next day, I fitted the new part, made a few adjustments, and fully lubricated the mechanism. 

 The window now opens and closes perfectly, with all locking points engaging exactly as they should.
