Locksmith Stories 014 - Garden Swing Bench/Bed Construction

 For my second piece of garden furniture, I, more like she, decided to build, wanted to have, a swing bench that could also double up as a bed. My two “little helpers”, aged 7 and 9, were keen to get involved — for all of five minutes, until the sanding stopped being fun and fingers started to numb :))

 The goal was to create a relaxing outdoor feature that combined practicality with comfort. Once the frame and swing assembly were complete, I ordered a pair of made‑to‑measure foam mattresses from a specialist supplier, along with waterproof fabric to cover them. 

 The swing was sanded, assembled, and carefully balanced for a smooth gliding motion. The waterproof‑covered mattresses were the final touch, making the bench perfect for lounging or napping on sunny afternoons. 

 The finished swing bench/bed turned out brilliantly. My wife was thrilled, the children loved it, and I was delighted to see the project come together exactly as planned and with a couple more boxes of tools :d win win some would say.
